# Parmarth Sansthan cleaning water in 50 villages in Bundelkhand’s Jhansi district
What about a situation where you have water in front but you can’t drink the same. Not one or two but thousands of villagers face this trouble due to poor accessibility to cheap methods of cleaning water to drink.
Keeping this in view Parmarth Sansthan took up the challenge and has changed lives of villagers in over 50 villages in Jhansi district.
WADI is an equipment that runs on solar power and cleans water with SODIS (Solar water disinfection) method. WADI is kept beside transparent bottles. It makes water clean to drink.
Solar power is used in India for power generation (radio television), to keep food grain dry, cooking food and several other work. IN Jhansi district of the Buldelkhand region of India Parmarth Sansthan is providing safe drinking water to 50 villages where this facility wasn’t available.
Under the process to clean water to be safe enough to drink WADI also gives signals about the status of water cleaning. In the display section a smiley appears stating the water has been purified. This smiley comes on display only when the solar power makes water pure enough to drink and the entire process has been completed.
This technique provides safe drinking water to humans at home, schools, localities and at community level too. WADI is used to kill bacteria and has been found effective against virus too.
With age content might differ but an average 60% human body is water. This means human body needs safe and clean drinking water every day or several times in one day. Lack of clean and safe drinking water can reduce overall health and increase chance of illness as body defence goes poor.
WADI is reliable and easy-to-use. Obtaining safe drinking water with WADI can be achieved in simple steps. Fill PET- or UV-permeable glass bottles with water and expose bottles and WADI to the sun, and press the reset button. Wait for a smiley on the display when the process is completed.
The smiley face appears as soon as the incident UV-dose reaches that of the reference values stored in WADI and the water is safe to drink. The process ensures removal of 99.99% of common harmful viruses, bacteria and protozoa.
It happened for the first time in the country when Parmarth sansthan initiated steps for clean and safe drinking water availability with Helios and Welt Hunger Hilife in Jhansi district with the help of solar power. This was a unique initiative that went extremely successful.
Parmarth Sansthan has ensured clean drinking water for 2482 families in 50 villages via WADI. earlier these villages lacked clean and safe drinking water but after Parmarth Sansthan took the initiative the life of villagers has changed. The organisation had also conducted a campaign to free villages from dirty water earlier. Under it the organisation conducted a survey in 50 villages, that gave the revelation that water from the handpumps was not safe to drink. This gave illness to many people. Parmarth Sansthan provided WADI to over 2500 families in villages free of cost. With this villages in Babina and Badagaon block are getting clean drinking water.
Nidhi Nagar a Jal Saheli of Mawai Gird village said Parmarth Sansthan had distributed WADI devide to families and it gave a positive impact on our health too. We and 50 odd families of Paani Panchayat use WADi regularly and this has reduced seasonal diseases in our village.
She said earlier children fell ill frequently with seasonal cold and cough but ever since WADI has been used seasonal illness has gone down. Change in taste of warer is also experienced. Earlier drinking water was hard but it is light and soft to drink and does not feel salty to drink.
Rajkumari of village Parsar said earlier water in village was dirty and impure which resulted in to stomach pain and illness. But the use of WADI provided by Parmarth Sansthan has made water clean and safe to drink which reduced frequent illness.
With effort of Parmarth Sanathan 50 villages have access to clean and safe drinking water which has made people happy.
