Jal Vidyalaya is an autonomous body to increase water literacy in India, where various courses will be conducted to increase the understanding of common people on various topics related to water.
In order to increase water literacy, teaching work will be done in this school by practical workers involved in the field of water conservation like Jal Saheli, Jal Yodha.
There will be contribution of subject experts in the teaching of this school but in the study, indigenous knowledge and successful experiments will be told and taught. Different types of courses will be created where subjects like pond construction, river revitalization, various rain water harvesting initiatives as well as water use efficiency will not only be taught but the students will also be taught at the ground level and they will be taught innovations.
Experiments will have to be done. During their teaching, they will be given a plot where they will be able to carry out experiments. This thinking and idea is to develop people’s understanding of ground and real knowledge as compared to bookish knowledge, this is the concept of Water School.
Although several rivers pass through Bundelkhand but the region suffers with water scarcity like no other. A key factor for this pathetic situation is the land has rock and plateau forming the landscape. In the past 20 years 13 years have passed dry. In the years 2006, 06, 07, 08 have seen drought in Bundelkhand and this resulted in to major migration. The reason behind migration was water scarcity and lack of option for employment. If the employment is considered the chief source is agriculture that need good soil and adequate water. Bundelkhand region lacks both. Hence people here are compelled to migrate. — Sanjay Singh, chief functionary, Parmarth Samaj Sevi Sansthan
