New Delhi: Punjab born Captain Tania Shergill will have the honor to lead the parade on Republic Day making her the fist women to adjutant on January 26. A video of her has already went viral in which she can be seen leading the parade on Army Day representing the military’s might in New Delhi.
The Army Day showcased some of the state-of-the-art-assets at the Cariappa Parade Ground in Delhi Cantt.
The 26-year-old Capt Shergill is the fourth officer of her generation in the family to serve the army and is born and bread in Hoshiyarpur, Punjab. Her father Cpt Surat Singh Shergill had also served in the Indian army after which he joined the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). He was also awarded the Police Medal for Gallantry from the President. Even her grandfather served the Scinde Horse Regiment while her great grandfather was in the Sikh Regiment.
Army chief general Gen MM Naravane, Air Chief Marshal RKS Bahdauria, Navy Chief Admiral Karambair Singh along with the Chief of defense Staff Gen Bipin Rawat were present on the occasion. While, the show on Wednesday revolved infantry combat vehicle BMP-3K, K9 Vajra-T artillery guns, the locally built Dhanush towed guns, T-90 main battle tanks and the short span bridging system along with a combat display were solders were seen in action penetrating into enemy territories of with 18 different contingents.
Last year, Captain Bahwna Kasturi was the first women officer to lead the all-men contingent on Republic Day.
