2021 Tata Safari Unveiled – Bookings Open from February 4th

 –  Aman Khan

The 2021 Tata Safari has been revealed, with the carmaker set to dispatch the SUV and start accepting bookings for it on February 4.Tata Motors has been chipping away at the all-new Safari for a long while now, and we have seen it in different phases of improvement; the last one being the Tata Gravitas showcased at the 2020 Auto Expo. With the Safari’s dispatch inescapable, we decided to assemble all the subtleties we have on the new three-row SUV.

The Land rover Architecture and Design Cues from it’s Younger Sibling

How about we start with the design of the new Safari, which has a couple of similarities to the more modest Harrier, with which it shares its platform. From the nose of the SUV till its C-pillar, there is little to recognize the Harrier and the Safari, except for the new front grille.

Despite the fact that past the C-pillar, the Safari separates itself with small details, for example, the more extended rear hang than the Harrier, the rooftop rails with chrome inserts conveying the Safari engraving, the stepped rooftop design (which beholds back to the previous gen design), a bigger back quarter glass (contrasted with the Harrier), a more upstanding back area with a new tailgate and refreshed set of tail-lamps.

The New Safari’s Motor-mind Combo

Powering the second-gen Tata Safari is the same 2.0-liter Kryotec turbo-diesel motor as in the Harrier. It is likewise in similar condition of tune as its more modest kin as it produces 170hp and 350Nm. Tata offers the motor with either a 6-speed manual or a 6-speed torque convertor automatic gearbox.

Because of the way that the new Safari utilizes the Land Rover-derived Omega architecture (which was intended to incorporate a four-wheel-drive system), Tata could build up a 4×4 variation of the Safari later on.

Beauty lies on the Inside

Talking about the interiors of the Safari, the general plan and format are to a great extent equivalent to the Harrier. The greatest change is the three rows of seating. There are six-seat and seven-seat layouts on offer; buyers can choose a seat (7-seater) in the middle row or captain seats (6-seater). Another vital change is new black and beige dual-tone colour scheme, which makes the cabin look more premium and upmarket.

Range of Options to Choose from

Tata will offer the new Safari in six primary trim levels – XE, XM, XT, XT+, XZ and XZ+. At the launch, the new Safari might be accessible only with automatic gearbox mixture in the XM, XZ and XZ+ trims. Other than this, the remainder of the highlights accessible on the Safari will be fundamentally the same as those offered on the Harrier.

The top-spec XZ+ trim will be all around kitted with front, side and curtain airbags, Hill -descent control, All-terrain response modes, an electronic parking brake, 18-inch machined alloy wheels, Xenon HID headlights, a 8.8-inch touchscreen infotainment setup with iRA connected vehicle tech, a 9-speaker JBL sound system, a 7.0-inch advanced display in the instrument cluster, a 6-way power adjustable driver’s seat, beige leatherette upholstery, an all panoramic sunroof and significantly more.

The Competition

When on the road, the all-new Tata Safari will compete with other 7-seat models in our market, for example, the Mahindra XUV500 and MG Hector Plus. However, this section will get much more serious as the year advances, with the next-gen Mahindra XUV500 and Hyundai’s new 7-seat Creta-based SUV, both set to launch in the not so distant future.
