Lucknow, the State capital of Uttar Pradesh, became third city in Uttar Pradesh, to report zika virus cases after Kanpur and Kannauj.
Kanpur has reported maximum over 100 zika cases while Kannauj one and Lucknow Thursday reported two cases of zika virus. The samples were taken on November 8 and tested at the King George’s Medical University.
While one patient is in Lucknow’s Kanpur road area the other one left for Ambedkarnagar. Officials in Ambedkarnagar have been asked to isolate the patient there and take samples of close contacts.
Both the patients are stable. We have taken samples of close contacts from their family, said officials spokesperson for the chief medical officer of Lucknow.
Zika case was first reported in Kanpur on October 23 after which the city reported over 100 more and then Kannauj reported one case.
Health department has sounded alert in the state considering the rising number of zika cases and surveillance activity has been intensified.

Fever cases are being traced and their samples being sent to lab for dengue and zika tests. Zika is a mosquito-borne virus that spreads through the bite of an infected Aedes species of mosquito.
Experts said Zika virus can be passed from a pregnant woman to her fetus. Infection during pregnancy can cause a birth defect called microcephaly and other severe fetal brain defects.
