A teenage Afgan girl has written letter to Angelina Jolie, which the celebrity shared on social media platform to draw attention towards situation in Afghanistan and suppression of women rights and freedom in the country that is facing Taliban attacker at present.
Jolie joined the social media platform recently, posting a letter she says she received from a teenage Afghan girl, whose name and location have been hidden. In the letter, the girl expresses her worries and fear over life under the Taliban, writing that we are imprisoned again.
“Before Taliban came in … we all had rights, we were able to defend our rights freely. But when they come, we are all afraid of them, and we think all our dreams are gone,” said the letter.
Following withdrawal of US forces, the Taliban swiftly assumed power. The Taliban previously held power between 1996 and 2001, leading an oppressive regime in which women were largely confined to the home.
At present people are leaving Afganistan and scenes of worried people making every effort is going viral from Afganistan.
The evacuation from Afganistan has worried other countries too. India has called an all-party meeting on Thursday to discuss the crisis in Afghanistan. India is evacuating Indian citizens stranded in Afghanistan and has been allowed to operate two flights per day from Kabul.
“In view of developments in Afghanistan, PM Narendra Modi has instructed that MEA brief Floor Leaders of political parties. Minister of Parliamentary Affairs Pralhad Joshi will be intimating further details,” foreign minister S Jaishankar tweeted. Union minster Pralhad Joshi tweeted that the briefing will be held at 11 am on August 26.
Jolie, who is a special envoy for the United Nations Refugee Agency, wrote in her caption that she plans on sharing the stories of people across the world who are fighting for their basic human rights.
