Women leading India’s fight against COVID19

Lucknow: Women have shown their capacity and leadership qualities in various sectors of life and at a time when world is fighting against coronavirus, women are again holding the reign at the top of the affairs in India.

Preeti Sudan, secretary at the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, is working on aligning all departments to execute the policies to prevent the spread of the disease. A significant aspect of controlling infection spread can work in the long run too.

Priya Abraham, director of National Institute of Virology, Pune, has made a significant medical breakthrough by isolating the deadly coronavirus. Tests conducted in this lab had samples from across India unless labs were developed in other states. India was depending upon this lab for long.

Beela Rajesh , health secretary of Tamil Nadu, has been proactive in engaging with citizens through her department and Twitter. Social media has played important role in controlling myths about the infection and also spreading the correct preventive measures.

Dr Nivedita Gupta, senior scientist at Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), is busy designing the treatment and testing protocols for the country. While doctors do it on the ground making a correct policy means a lot for the medical staff to work on.

Dr Renu Swarup, secretary, Department of Biotechnology, is spending her time trying to find a vaccine. Not only India but the world is looking for it and over 200 labs are conducting tests to make a vaccine. If India does it she will be a key player.
