As Dalit-n-youth icon Chandrashekhar reached Jama Masjid in New Delhi on December 20 and waved picture of Baba Saheb amid protestors, think tanks of the ruling party got another reason to worry for.
After amendment in the citizenship law came to fore one section has been making unremitting attempts to give it a Hindu Muslim color and unfortunately the prime minister in a political rally in Jharkhand gave a message about clothes of the protesters.
In these protests a large number of non-Muslims have been stated as secular by right-wing (though their indication carries negativity) and spoke regret. But ever since a large section of Dalits have joined these protests the think tanks in the ruling BJP have added to their lines of worries on their forehead.
In these protests Prakesh Ambedkar in Maharastra has been actively participating in the past but in the recent Chandrashekhar, who emerged as Dalit-n-youth icon, has been very active and has given a new twist to the entire tale of protests.
On December 20 Chandrashekhar had gone to Delhi to protests but was denied permission and then was arrested on December 21, the next day. This arrest (of Chandrashekhar) has had a big impact in the region he holds strong, from western Uttar Pradesh to Bihar and this led to bring Dalit youths in big number out to protest against the Citizenship laws.
It was here that worries started
As a matter of fact the activities of Dalit youths led by Chandrashekhar has troubled Rastriya Swayamsweak Sangh (RSS). This is because the RSS has been trying to made inroads in to Dalit youth for the past 6 years. The Sangh and BJP leaders have been visiting the Dalit colonies and have been doing community feasts with them (Dalits).
This is also a fact that with the recent attitude of BSP chief Mayawati one section of Dalits is upset and they can be seen moving away from the BSP leader (Mayawati). IN such a situation if the Dalit youth goes with Chandrashekhar this could trouble the BJP too that has been eyeing the Dalit votes.
Let’s understand the basis of worry for BJP and the Sangh
This could be a big blow to the entire effort being made to establish these protest as Hindi Vs. Muslim. If a group of Dalits join the protests the entire colour of protest will change dramatically. And if this change in the protest bring about Dalit-Muslim unity it will be a new and big vote bank which can give a direct loss to the BJP. An indication to this changed scenario was apparent in the photographs from Jama Masjid in New Delhi that showed Chandrashekhar waving Baba Saheb picture.
As Yogi government took over in Uttar Pradesh, Chandrashekhar was in jail for long. And this has given way to anger among the Dalit youths. Noe that Chandrashekhar has announced formation of his own (political) party another significant development is about to make its impact. A large section of the Dalits is in anger due to the incidents stated to be atrocities with the Dalits and that some motor mouth BJP leaders too speak against Dalits and give statements. It was this reason only that Savirtibai Phule had to leave her MP ship and the party.
The manner in which Chandrashekhar is accusing of tampering with the constitution made by Baba Saheb, is creating an anti-government atmosphere. In all, the BJP has got a jolt in its attempt to gain Dalit votes and the jolt is from Chandrashekhar.
On the other hand Mayawati too is troubled. She has ruled upon Dalit votes alone and now Chandrasherkhar is speaking against her too. As the citizenship amendment bill was passed in the Rajya Sabha then Chandrashekhar had tweeted against the BSP president and wrote in his tweet, “बसपा के दो सांसद संविधान को बचाने की लड़ाई छोड़कर भाग गएऔर भाजपा की (नागरिकता (संशोधन) विधेयक में) मदद की। उन्होंनेबीआर आंबेडकर, बसपा संस्थापक कांशीराम और बहुजन समाज(दलित समुदाय) के साथ छल किया है।” “ (Two MPs of BSP left the fight to save the constitution and thereby helped BJP in Citizenship bill. They have cheated with BR Ambedkar, BSP founder Kanshiram and Bahujan community (Dalit community).”
There are more challenges than Chandrashekhar alone. A large section of tribal’s are now also against the Citizenship law. If this group also joins actively then the government in the center will have nothing but added stress to its troubles.
