About ten years before senior BJP leader Rajnath Singh had given a statement in the parliament that ‘if the government wants any riot can be controlled in six hours’. His statement is getting viral amid the violence in Delhi that is going on since three days.
After 1984, Delhi again is burning. But this time there is a difference. IN 1984 the target were Sikh but this time two adjacent shops have been burnt and one each belonged to Hindu and Muslim.
And all this happened in national capital Delhi that we project as one of the best cities in the world. It happened just in front of the Delhi police that has its reigns with the union home ministry. When the country’s top leadership was busy in the visit of the US president and others the Delhi police appeared paralyzed and even police commissioner was seen nowhere in the national capital.
Also the police officers who are used to give statement after every incident were silent on this episode. And even then they chose to remain quiet when life of a constable was lost, a officer had to be put on ventilator support and had been struggling between life and death.
Doval’s entry tells the seriousness
After three days Ajit Doval the national security advisor could be seen on the Delhi roads and a scene was created as if after this there will be peace all over. But still a question remains unanswered that the person who has control over the country’s intelligence agencies how come he was not aware of the preplanned conspiracy. The dead body of an IB officer too is raising questions.
On the February 26 evening Doval visited the effected areas including Ghoda, Maujpur, Chauhan Bangar and he put his hand upon shoulder of men and also gave assurance to women. Why was the national security advisor at that place where the Delhi police commissioner should have gone? This tells the gravity of the problem. His gesture was such as if saying I didn’t knew all this else this would not have happened.

There have been 5 national security advisors in the country but none went to the roads like this. It can now be said that in the entire episode the role of Delhi police has been shameful. We can not relax thinking that what ever happened was a bad dream and now every thing will be all right. But we need to think upon what consequences can come aftermath the Delhi incident.
There are two governments in Delhi. But the centre neither the state government was seen doing any action while the newly elected Kejriwal government that got clear majority was seen repeating that the police force was not under their control. Neither the responsible ones in the BJP government that too came with full majority were seen doing anything. Our PM Modi who tweets on almost every thing was also silent.
Arvind Kejriwal appealed to stop violence but it was not enough. Now it is his party’s corporator who’s name is being taken for instigating violence. His party MLAs and workers should have been deployed within hours of the outbreak of violence.
It is also unfortunate that when at 3 in the night students went to the chief minister residence to express their concern they were not allowed to meet Kejriwal and then were made to face water cannon and arrested.
Since the assembly elections the kind of statements and violence and hatred Delhi has seen in three days it is dangerous. Officials who had a habit to close internet services on small issues forgot to close it this time is another unanswered question.
IN such an atmosphere what will be the future of India can just be imagined. Are we heading on a way where violence can be provoked in the name of religion and caste?
Who started the violence? Who were those who reportedly attacked with the crowd from outside? This should be probed independently and identification of the offenders is important. But will Delhi police be able to do this?
This question is also important because two months before the Jawaharlal University campus had seen violence and the offenders are yet to be identified despite the fact that CCTV footage is clearly showing the faces.
But the most important question is what is the reason behind this lackadaisical attitude of Delhi police? Are hands of the cops tied? If so then what is that power that has restricted the Delhi police that is said to be powerful?
Now, the statement of Rajnath Singh has to be understood. After all he had been union home minister of India.
