In a significant step to give new direction and momentum to chess activities in Uttar Pradesh, the state’s regulatory body for chess, U.P. Chess Sports Association, has developed a comprehensive short-term and long-term strategic plan. As part of this initiative, the “Future Grandmaster Series” is being launched to provide emerging players with the exposure and experience needed for participation in major national and international competitions.
In the first phase of this series, international-rated chess tournaments will be organized in 10 districts of the state during the 2025–26 season. Promising players will be selected from these tournaments and provided training under the guidance of Grandmasters or International Masters.
Each tournament will carry a total prize fund of Rs. 2,00,000 (Two Lakh Rupees). The entry fee will be Rs. 1000, with a 25% discount offered to all players from Uttar Pradesh. Additionally, players who rank in the top five in the U.P. State Championship (all age categories and senior category) will receive a 50% discount on the entry fee.
The first tournament will be held from May 10 to May 13, 2025, at D.P.S. Sitapur, jointly organized by the U.P. Chess Sports Association and Sitapur Educational Institution. Participation will be limited to a maximum of 250 players.
Future tournaments in the Future Grandmaster Series are also proposed to be held in major districts including Lucknow, Kanpur, Varanasi, Prayagraj, Gorakhpur, Deoria, Bareilly, Jhansi, Noida, Ghaziabad, and Agra, among others.
