Lucknow: Uttar Pradesh state capital Lucknow has been rapped by the centre along with 12 other districts in the country for cases and mortality rate higher than the national average.
The district administrations of these districts have been asked to address the issues of low testing and delays in test results. They have been asked to ensure timely hospitalisation as there were reports from areas that patients were dying within 48 hours of being admitted.
The districts are Kamrup Metro (Assam), Patna (Bihar), Ranchi (jharkhand), Alappuzha (Kerala), Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala), Ganjam (Odisha), Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh), North 24 Parganas (West Bengal), Hooghly (West Bengal), Howrah (West Bengal), Kolkata (West Bengal), Maldah (West Bengal). Majority five districts are from West Bengal.
These identified districts account for nearly 9% of India’s active cases and about 14% of COVID-19 deaths. They also report low tests per million and high confirmation percentage. The ministry, on Saturday, said India’s recovery rate rose to 68.32 per cent and fatality rate steadily declined to 2.04%.
A secretary level meeting was also conducted to talk to the director general of these states from where the districts were identified and instructions were given on the situation. Uttar Pradesh COVID-19 tally reached 122609 and 2069 deaths till now. The state has received 500 ventilators from the PM CARES fund.
