UP election second phase: 55-constituencies 586 candidates

Second phase polls in Uttar Pradesh has begun to elect 55 MLAs and there are 2,01,42,441 voters who will take a call for electing a candidate of their choice at the polling booths.

According to the election commission till 9 am an overall 9.75% voters had given their choice of party/candidate.

IN 2017, out of the total 55 seats BJP had got 38 and 15 went to Samajwadi Party while 2 to Congress. Among ministers medical education minister Suresh Khanna is contesting from Shahjahanpur assembly seat.

The seats where polling is going on are Behat, Nakur, Saharanpur Nagar, Saharanpur, Thakurdwara, Moradabad Rural, Moradabad Nagar, Kundarki, Bilari, Chandausi (SC), Asmoli, Sambhal, Suar, Chamraua, Bilaspur, Rampur, Milak (SC), Deoband, Rampur Maniharan (SC), Gangoh, Najibabad, Nagina (SC), Barhapur, Dhampur, Nehtaur (SC), Bijnor, Chandpur, Bithari Chainpur, Bareilly, Bareilly Cantt., Noorpur, Kanth, Dhanaura (SC), Naugawan Sadat, Amroha, Hasanpur, Gunnaur, Bisauli (SC), Sahaswan, Bilsi, Badaun, Shekhupur, Dataganj, Baheri, Meerganj, Bhojipura, Nawabganj, Faridpur (SC), Aonla, Katra, Jalalabad, Tilhar, Powayan (SC), Shahjahanpur and Dadraul.

A total of 586 candidates are in the fray for the 55 assembly seats spread across nine districts including nine reserved seats for the Scheduled Castes. They include Saharanpur, Moradabad, Bareilly, Rampur, Bijnor, Amroha (J.P. Nagar), Sambhal (Bhim Nagar), Budaun and Shahjahanpur district. There are 1,07,61,476 male voters, 93,79,704 female voters and 1,261 third gender voters.

IN the first phase polling was held on 58 seats in 11 districts and 60.17% polling took place. Second phase has 9 districts and 55 seats. Upon several seats religious leaders have their own impact.

The elections are being held in 7 phases and result will be announced on March 10.
