UP Brick Kiln Industry Vows to Become Green Industry, Action Plan to Ensure Zero Carbon Brick Production

A state level meeting Multi Stakeholder Meeting of Buniyaad Campaign was organized by the Climate Agenda at hotel Golden Tulip, Hussainganj, Lucknow today.

This meeting was joined by Uttar Pradesh Pollution Control Board, Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Agency, Labor Department International Labour Organization, Uttar Pradesh Brick Kiln Association, Kiln Owners, Labour Unions, Technical Experts, Academicians and the Civil Society Organizations associated with 100%Uttar Pradesh Network having focus on Social Security and climate mitigation issues.

Briefing about the meeting, Ms Ekta Shekhar, Director of the Climate Agenda said: Representatives of all stakeholders of the Brick Kiln Industry gathered in the meeting today. All the above stakeholder representatives jointly released Lucknow Declaration of Buniyaad campaign, which commits to form a multistakeholder platform and jointly prepare an action plan to ensure equity based decarbonization of UP Brick Industry in the near future.

Speaking further about the Lucknow Declaration which vows to contribute to India’s efforts to achieve green Economy, Ms Ekta said: Industries all over the world are getting ready to achieve green growth. UP’s Brick Industry is joining hands with those efforts and is committed to lower down its carbon emission through adapting better technologies, fuelling system and all other better practices so that the industry leads the Just Transition roadmap for all other industries in the state. The Buniyaad Lucknow Declaration clearly says that the multi stakeholder platform will design one such roadmap that will ensure the adoption of zero carbon brick production technologies in the Industry and will pave the way for India’s Green Growth through Greener Bricks.

The Muti stakeholder conference run till 2 PM where more than 60 issue experts and other participants from various UP cities and from New Delhi, Mumbai etc had arrived. Welcome and Thanks note were shared by Mr V K Rai and Ms Saniya Anwar. The meeting was moderated by Ms Harpreet Bhullar and Mr Ravi Shekhar.
