These are mere news but the figures are rising every day. We should not forget that people we call corona warriors are the ones for whom we had clapped and lighted lamps on the call given by our prime minister.
Our warriors are in danger and there is no doubt about it. But what has the government done to save our warriors? This is a big and pertinent question. You may say that in this time of crisis one should avoid raising questions but then it is also a crime to stay silent when it is related to our saviours or rather said God. An old saying — Hiding the mouth of ostrich sand does not end the storm.
Offender number 1: incapable administrative system
Despite lockdown has gone over a month now but doctors still are waiting for proper PPE kits and so are the other medical staff engaged in treatment. In this time of crisis also those in to corruption found way and substandard PPE kits were supplied to the medical teams. On top of it, instead of looking for the responsible ones who made substandard PPE kit be provided the government is focusing who leaked the internal office letter regarding the PPE kits.
With the start of lockdown nurses in Lucknow and Delhi had been demanding proper kits for themselves but none heard them then. In many hospitals the doctors were provided luxury rooms in hotels but nurses and para-medical staff didn’t got anything.
Sample this. When for patients in Sultanpur a hospital was arranged hurriedly the medical staff sent there had to spend the night in a open field, without any arrangement. Who will take the onus if they get infected?
The administration is also confused over the running of private hospitals in big numbers. Every other day a order is issued on the whims of officials and the result is private hospitals are hesitating to give treatment.
Second offender: Incapable planners and policy implementation
The chief ministers of states are working with their full energy but they are struggling hard with lack of resources and also the poor vision of their advisors. These advisors have engaged the CMs in image building exercises and they are getting orders passed at their own will. The centre had promised help to states but despite the limit of the due date crossed the money could not be transferred.
IN state like Uttar Pradesh the system of PPE kit and mask supply could not be made which could have actually been developed at local level. The DMs have not been given permission to make expenditure in any new head hence the suppliers are afraid of their payment and are hesitant towards supply.
A supplier Manish Kumar says many DMs contacted him to manufacture PPE kit but could not assure from where the payment will be done. Some DMs got it made with the help of self-help groups (SHGs) and also in the prisons the kits were made but still the jail authorities lack a clear order in this regard.
The entire control is in the hands of a coterie of officers and have very meticulously ousted the public representatives such as MPs and MLAs. The MP and MLA funds are now under the government control and now it can not be used locally to purchase kits or masks.
Offender three: insolent and stubborn people
We have seen in the one-and-half-month that doctors and medical teams were attacked at many places. What was behind these incidents is the job of social experts to find out but this is a serious crime. In the beginning it was blamed upon people from the Tabligi Jamat and the result was the entire community was seen as criminals due to these few fools. Police is working day and night but people ate not listening. Fools are there is each city and religion. The rich are not skipping a chance to loiter around and even celebrating birthdays. Women cops are out leaving behind their little ones and so are the nurses but the rich aren’t worried before their merry.
IN a disease that we know little or nothing about we have left constables on the frontline with their own destiny.
