Protest march by Samajwadi Party (SP) on Monday, to highlight the issues just before the monsoon session of the state legislature could start, was stopped by cops.
Police said the party was given a route to take out their march but they did not opt for that route and went on another route. As soon as SP chief Akhilesh Yadav, party MLAs workers started moving towards the Vidhan Bhavan from the party office on Vikramaditya Marg, police stopped them near the crossing.
Following this Yadav and the other party leaders sat on protest on the road. During the march, workers held placards raising issues of unemployment, price rise, crime against women and poor law and order situation in the state.
The SP chief reached the party office at around 9.40 am from where he along with other legislators and party workers started marching towards the Vidhan Bhavan, which was pre-announced programme of the party.
Amid heavy police force deployed between Samajwadi Party (SP) office and Vidhan Sabha, leaders of the party started a protest march by walking from party office to the state assembly on Monday. Party chief and former chief minister of UP Akhilesh Yadav led the pre-decided march. Since morning heavy police force was deployed outside the Samajwadi Party office on the Vikramaditya Marg and the entire stretch was cordoned off by putting up barricades and sort of human chain by cops themselves.
As Akhilesh Yadav came out of the party office to lead the march he had to face cops standing outside. Yadav was holding placard and was trying to move ahead. Cops from several police stations along with para-military forces were called to the spot.
UP CM Yogi Adityanath while reacting to SP’s protest said, “There is no harm if any party asks their questions in a democratic way. Samajwadi Party should take permission for any procession which should not harm anyone. Following laws and order is too much of an expectation from Samajwadi Party leaders.”
