Searching the ‘nine-to-five’ voters in Uttar Pradesh

Jubilee News Desk

Is the new voter hidden between nine-to-five in Uttar Pradesh? Well time slots can not hide men but the manner in which politicians have kick started their political campaigns indicates they have focused this segment.

The initial political promises that have set the ball rolling in Uttar Pradesh assembly elections are about 9 am to 5 pm — the office going or the job seekers. Take example of the latest promise by Priyanka Gandhi at her Moradabad ‘Pratigya’ rally.

Youth started voting in big number after the EVMs were introduced and voting started since early morning. Uttar Pradesh has a sizable number of young voters. Nearly 12.36 lakh first time voters were eligible to vote in the last Lok Sabha elections.

“Congress will contest elections on basis of development. Will provide 20 lakh jobs. Manufacturing hub will open in every district. PM didn’t pay any respect to farmers those died in agitation against farm laws,” said Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at Pratigya Rally in Moradabad.

Earlier Priyanka had said if her party wins the assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh, skill development schools will be opened in every district in the name of ‘veeranganas’ like freedom fighter Jhalkari Bai.

Not just the opposition but the issue of jobs for youth has been raised by the BJP itself. BJP MP Varun Gandhi in his recent tweet stated the issue is frustrating for the youth without jobs. “First, there is no government job, and if there comes some chance, the paper gets leaked, if you give the exam, you don’t have the result for years, then get cancelled in some scam. 1.25 Crore youth of Railway Group D are waiting for the results for two years. The same is true of recruitment in the army. Till when should the youth of India be patient?” the BJP MP tweeted, which is being seen as a veiled attack upon the party itself.

It was because of the youth connect that hours after the UPTET paper leak the state government announced that all applicants can travel back home without giving fare to the state transport buses and the exam will be conducted again in a month time.

The Congress leader has already made a number of women-centric promises, including 40% tickets to females in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections next year, smartphones to all Class 12 pass girls and electric scooters to graduate women, if her party forms a government in the state.

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav, who started distribution of laptops to students in the state has always been focused upon youth and generation of jobs. Generation of jobs has now become a fad among political parties and they chase voters with much perseverance focusing schemes for youths.
