Process of illuminating cities with solar lights gains momentum in Uttar Pradesh

Lucknow . Under the visionary leadership of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, Uttar Pradesh has embarked on a significant initiative to enhance its clean energy infrastructure. The state has commenced the installation of 300 heritage mast solar lighting systems and 1500 smart solar lights in identified locations across various cities. Simultaneously, efforts are underway to equip state government offices with 2 MW and 4 MW on-grid hybrid solar rooftop power plants.

The Uttar Pradesh New and Renewable Energy Agency (UPNEDA) has initiated the process of appointing contractors for these projects and has invited applications from eligible candidates. These initiatives underline the government’s commitment to promoting solar energy to meet the state’s energy demands effectively.

With this, the Yogi administration aims not only to transform several cities into solar cities but also to cultivate public interest in solar energy initiatives statewide.

UPNEDA has started the contractor appointment process to complete the supply, installation, operation and maintenance process of Heritage Mast and Smart Solar Lighting System and 2 and 4 MW On Grid Hybrid Solar Rooftop Power Plant in the state. A time limit of 4 months has been set for the contractor agency after the allotment of work to install all these equipment at various places in the state.

The contractor agency will provide comprehensive warranties for these tools. Following installation and operation, the selected contractor agency will ensure their maintenance for 5 years.

Notably, the Heritage Mast Lighting will be installed at a cost of Rs 7.92 crore, while the Smart Solar Street Lighting System will cost Rs 39.45 crore. Similarly, to meet the energy needs of various government offices in the state, the 2-megawatt and 4-megawatt on-grid hybrid solar rooftop power plants will be installed at a cost of Rs 35.57 crore and Rs 68.74 crore, respectively.

According to the action plan of UPNEDA, preparations are being made to equip major cities of Uttar Pradesh with Heritage Mast and Smart Solar Lighting System, with focus on the high footfall regions of these cities.

In this sequence, their installation, commissioning, operation and maintenance will be done at various primary health centers, main roads/intersections, animal markets, small markets (haat) as well as panchayat houses, public drinking water sources, cross roads/road junctions, fair grounds etc.

Each solar LED heritage mast lighting system will have a capacity of 800 watts power in the form of 4 units of 200 watts power. Their battery will be lithium ferro phosphate based which will work on 12.8 volt output. During this, the lumen efficacy of each heritage light system will be 135 lumens per watt.

At the same time, the Smart Street Solar Lighting System will be empanelled on a 6 meter pole, emitting 140 lumens per watt with a system wattage of 45 watts. These lights are expected to have a lifespan of 50,000 hours.

The 2-megawatt and 4-megawatt on-grid hybrid rooftop solar power plants to be installed in various government offices across the state will operate using Solar Photovoltaic (SPV) technology. These systems will be equipped with several features.

It will consist of solar PV modules, hybrid inverters, mounting structures, junction boxes, earthing and lightning protection, batteries, infrastructure and ultra violet resistant PVC cables, pipes, and other accessories, along with a remote monitoring system as the main components.

It’s noteworthy that the SPV system connected to the grid will be designed and installed with bi-directional battery and necessary specifications.
