Probes trouble top KGMU authorities

As the term of present King George’s Medical University (KGMU) vice chancellor is nearing completion the VC and senior officials of the university are getting in to trouble.

The state administration has ordered a probe in to the charges against the vice chancellor Prof MLB Bhatt while a senior female faculty member has sought help from senior police officials for the misbehavior with her by university officials. She has also alleged that cops at Chowk police station denied accepting her FIR.

The fact finding committee against the vice chancellor has divisional commissioner Mukesh Meshram as its chairperson. DG of the medical education department Dr KK Gupta and finance officer of the directorate are its members.

KGMU is more than 100 years old country’s premier medical institute.

The vice chancellor was facing several allegation regarding appointment done during his tenure and also anomalies in administrative working. The committee will consider all such complaints and submit its report in 15-days.

The timing of the probe holds significance as the present vice chancellor is one of the candidate for a second term as the vice chancellor. His term will end on April 14, by then a new vice chancellor shall be selected.

Applications for the post of vice chancellor are being submitted and some of the senior professors are also in the fray to become the vice chancellor.

While this issue had come a female faculty member filed a complaint with the top police officials demanding action against officials of the medical university and the in charge of the Chowk police station, who refused to allow her to file a FIR.

The faculty member had given details of how she was misbehaved with by staff at the vice chancellor office and also a senior faculty member with an intention to wrongful confinement. She had gone to file reply in a matter that was probed by the university.

The in charge of the Chowk police station said the matter was against high profile people and it required orders from top police bosses to lodge a FIR, the woman wrote in her complaint.

Meanwhile a senior resident at KGMU was caught referring patient to a private hospital and handed over to police. The resident posted at critical care medicine department was at the neuro-surgery department asking attendants to shift patients.
