Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi on Saturday held a meeting of the state party leaders of planning and core groups over UP’s law and order situation.

In the meeting it was decided to launch campaign against the deteriorating law and order and Jungle Raj in Uttar Pradesh. The meeting, held online, was attended by UPCC chief Ajay Kumar Lallu, Congress Legislature Party (CLP) leader Aradhana Mishra Mona, former Union Ministers Rajeev Shukla, Jitin Prasad, Pradeep Jain, former MP Brijlal Khabri, former Minister RK Chaudhary, former MLA Imran Masood, former MP Rajaram Pal, Congress Legislative Council leader Deepak Singh, and in-charge secretaries.

Gandhi, while sharing concern over the prevalent law and order situation in Uttar Pradesh, said the state’s law and order situation is alarming. She said that the rule of law has now got confined to the ‘Sanklappatra.’

“There is total lawless in the state. People and police are feeling insecure. Those attacking cops have been patronized by the government. The patronage extended by the government has emboldened criminals,” said Gandhi.

In a statement, UPCC chief Ajay Kumar Lallu said that Uttar Pradesh has become a hotspot of murder, rape and torture of the innocents.

“Every two-hour there is a rape in the state. Murders account for 89 per cent of the crimes taking place in the state. There is no let up in crimes even during the corona-induced lockdown. Capital tops in violence against women and crime. During the lockdown, Kanpur, Prayagraj, Bulandshahr and Lucknow reported maximum crime,” added Lallu.

Lallu informed that the Congress party will hold press conferences in all the districts to highlight the increasing incidents of crimes in the state and the Jungle Raj. He said that the UP Congress will launch an online campaign against the Jungle Raj in the state. The party leaders and workers will go live on Facebook to mobilize the people to take on the Jungle Raj in a decisive manner.

“We will urge the people to raise their voice against the increasing crime in the state. The Congress party calls upon the people of Uttar Pradesh to air their concern against the spike in crimes on social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter and Instagram,” added Lallu.

He said that the meeting had serious deliberations over the increasing incidents of crime in Uttar Pradesh and the Jungle Raj. The party has decided to expose the growing nexus between criminals and leaders during the BJP regime.

The UPCC chief said that the Congress would also unmask the ruling party leaders who are giving patronage to criminals. The meeting also agreed to the fact that the criminals have an overt protection of the Government as a result of which the anti-social elements are least scared of the administration and the police.

Lallu said that the Congress party would request the people of the state to write to District Congress workers and leaders regarding their crime related problems. The Congress will hand over all these letters to the Governor and the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
