LUCKNOW: After a long wait medical students, of two private medical colleges that were debarred from conducting MBBS courses, shall finally get an opportunity to re-start their studies.
These 120 students of Glocal medical college Saharanpur and GCRG medical college in Lucknow had been awaiting decision by the directorate of medical education on shifting to another medical college, and the decision has now come.
In all 24 students in Saharanpur who had studied till second year MBBS and 96 students of GCRG medical college will get a chance next week to select another private college from among 14 in Uttar Pradesh and continue their MBBS studies.
The medical council of India (MCI) had debarred the Glocal medical college Saharanpur for the poor infrastructure hence MBBS could not be carried further. Ever since this decision came, the students have been demanding transfer and had been staging protests at various levels to get attention of the authorities.
State government in September had sought permission/directives from union health ministry on transfer of MBBS students from Glocal medical college Saharanpur to other colleges. Similarly after the essentiality certificate of GCRG medical college was cancelled in January this year the medical education department sought permission from central government for shifting of existing students of this medical college also to some other college. The permission came and now counselling schedule has been announced from January 27.
It is a big relief for us as we were really worried about what will happen to our future. Now that counselling has been announced we hope we shall be able to become doctors, said one of the students who had been staging protest and meeting authorities to get the shifting done.
The directorate of medical education is going to conduct counselling to allot all 120 students seats in various private medical colleges running in the state. Students need to come for the counselling with documents that they had reached with for the counselling earlier when they took admission initially. They will be required to select college listed in the counselling and when they get seats they will carry forward the studies.
