Oral Health Sciences Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh has organized ‘Prof. Amrit Tewari Memorial Continuing Medical Education Programme’

Since its inception in the year 1995, Oral Health Sciences Centre (OHSC), PGIMER is known for its excellence and world class treatment facilities. Apart from delivering treatment to patients, OHSC is known for conducting various Conferences/Conventions/CME/CDE’s on a regular basis.On 80th Birthday of Late Prof. Amrit Tewari (Ex-Dean, PGIMER) and the occasion of Teacher’s Day 2018, Oral Health Sciences Centre, PGIMER, Chandigarh has organized‘Prof. Amrit Tewari Memorial Continuing Medical Education Programme’.

The programme began with the inaugural talk by the Director PGIMER Prof. Jagat Ram who highlighted the role played by Prof. Amrit Tewari for the upliftment of dental profession as a whole and how she was instrumental in making oral health accessible to everyone at the time where dentistry was at an infant stage in the country. He also stressed the importance of oral health on overall health.

Prof. K Guaba (Head, OHSC) told the importance of CME onboostingthe education and practicing an updated and advanced dentistry. As a part of scientific programme, lectures by eminent stalwart’s speakers were held.Prof. O.P.Kharbanda (Chief, Centre for Dental Education & Research, AIIMS – New Delhi)enlightenhow face changes the quality of life and self-confidence of a person in different ages starting from early childhood to adulthood and elderly.

He added that cleft lip and palate patients can be treated at any agewith an interdisciplinary approach. Such treatment has a great impact in improving one’s quality of life.Prof. Sandesh Mayekar (Leading smile designer, Mumbai) through his presentation shared his experiencethat how a perfect smile designing changes professional outlook of a person.He also highlighted the impact of smile design on Bollywood and fashion industry in India.He stressed on proper diagnosis and treatment plan as a key to smile design. Dr. A. Kumarswamy focused on Dental Implants and its emerging trend in dental practice for replacing the missing teeth. Prof. Ajay Logani from AIIMS – New Delhi deliberated howa tooth broken due to trauma can be saved rather than removing it. He further apprised the recent techniques of management of cracked tooth in dental practice.

Dr. Tarun Walia from Dubai gave an insight into the importance of milk teeth in children and also the behaviour management of children in dental office.At this event, Prof. Ashima Goyal, the Organizing Secretary told that the Oral Health Sciences Centre and the Indian Dental Association are committed to improving the levels of dental care through a series of such thought provoking scientific discourse.

The program ended with a panel discussion on Ethics in dental practice where discussion were held on improving the ethical standards in patient care as well as research. The house affirmed that maintaining the highest standard of ethics is a prerequisite for any healthcare service including dentistry.
