No extension plan for 21-day lockdown: government

With social media and some section of the media reporting about extension of the 21-day lockdown in the country the government denied any such move being thought about.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had announced total lockdown across the country to break the chain of transmission of the deadly coronavirus. The government on Monday said there was no plan to extend the 21-day lockdown. It came into force on Tuesday midnight.

This brings end to the romour that extension of the lockdown was being planned, the Press Information Bureau (PIB) of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting tweeted There are rumours & media reports, claiming that the Government will extend the lockdown when it expires.

The Cabinet Secretary has denied these reports, and stated that they are baseless. PIB said Cabinet Secretary Rajiv Gauba has denied media reports claiming that the government will extend the lockdown.

According to ANI, Gauba had also denied such reports saying, “I’m surprised to see such reports, there is no such plan of extending.”

The 21-day lockdown is aimed at checking the spread of the coronavirus. Following the lockdown, there has been a massive exodus of migrant workers from big cities to their villages after being rendered jobless.
