Lucknow: Retirement of the present DGP OP Singh is due on January 31 and speculations about ‘who will be the next DGP of Uttar Pradesh’s are high. But a concrete information on this is far from anybody’s reach.
The appointment this time is not without a twist. Earlier it was state government’s prerogative to appoint the DGP. But now the state under the new system needs to send a panel of names to the union public service commission.
Senior IPS officer and the DG civil security JL Tripathi on Wednesday filed a petition with the Lucknow bench of the High Court and the matter may be taken up on January 24.
Petitioner’s lawyer Nutan Thakur said that in the case Prakash Singh vs government of India The supreme court has directed state governments to send list of senior moat IPS officers and there after the commission shall select and send back three names from the list.
Despite this JL Tripathi’s name has not been included in the list. Tripathi she said ranks third among senior officers. The list has names of officers junior to Tripathi, which is violation of the supreme court directives, she said.
Nutan said the state government has sent the list of names in violation of supreme court directives hence the prayer has been made to include his name in the list of three senior officers.
