Musharraf calls death penalty as ‘political vendetta’

 

 

Former dictator of Pakistan on Wednesday has expressed his views based of the death penalty given to him by the now Imran Khan government as ‘personal vendetta’. Parvez Musharraf who has been charged with treason based on 5 different cases has been living in Dubai since 2016.

 

Although the verdict has been welcomed with mixed feelings from the government and military officials along with the citizens of  Pakistan, Imran Khan has been worried about his military backing the former general. The former Pakistani Army General Parveez Musharraf has been found guilty of imposing an emergency in violation of the constitution.

Military have been backing Parvez Musharraf saying that, “he has served the country for over 40 years, fought wars for the defense of the country can never be a traitor.”

During the year 1999 when he came to power in the country has ordered the expulsion of the then Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif from participating in the elections. His political party the All India Muslims League (AIML) has expressed to challenge the verdict after consulting with their lawyers.

Musharraf who has been living in self imposed exile in Dubai for more than three years after 2016 after the Pakistani Supreme Court lifted a travel ban allowing him to leave to country to seek medical treatment.
