In what could be said as a ‘major move’ for the 2022 Uttar Pradesh assembly elections, Aparna Yadav, the daughter of Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Aparna Yadav joined BJP on Wednesday.
This is one major shift in the ongoing change of party between BJP and SP leaders. The shifting has been going on since past two weeks.
Aparna joined BJP in New Delhi party office and the UP’s deputy chief minister Keshav Maurya and BJP’s UP chief Swatantra Dev Singh were present.
Aparna Yadav, wife of Mulayam Singh’s younger son, Pratik Yadav, had been seen in some of the BJP functions and speculations about her switching party had come to fore.
Aparna contested the 2017 assembly election as SP candidate from Lucknow Cantonment seat. She lost to BJP candidate Rita Bahuguna Joshi by a margin of over 33K votes. SP chief and former Uttar Pradesh chief minister Akhilesh Yadav had earlier dismissed speculation about his younger brother’s wife Aparna Yadav joining the BJP.
He had said, “The BJP is more concerned about my family than me.” Uncle Shivpal Yadav had also asked Aparna to rethink joining BJP.
It is said that Aparna wanted ticket from Lucknow cantonment seat and this was not working out in Samajwadi Party.
