Governor of Madhya Pradesh Lal Ji Tandon passed away on Tuesday morning at Medanta hospital after prolonged illness. He was admitted since over a month for treatment.
His son Ashutosh Tandon Gopalji who is a minister in Yogi government tweeted about the death of his father and MP Governor. ‘babuji nahi rahe,’ he tweeted. UP government announced three day of state mourning following the death of Madhya Pradesh governor Lal Ji Tandon. Prime minister, home minister and Uttar Pradesh chief minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over the death.
“Shri Lalji Tandon will be remembered for his untiring efforts to serve the society. He played a key role in strengthening the BJP in Uttar Pradesh. He made a mark an as effective administrator always giving importance of public welfare. Anguished by his passing away,” tweeted the PM.
Lalji Tandon was also the governor of Bihar between August 2018 and July 2019. Tandon was associated with Sangh since the age of 12 and his political career started in 1960. He became the MP in Lucknow after Atal Bihari Vajpayee.

Tandon’s name has been associated with the politics of Uttar Pradesh and even the former chief minister and BSP supremo Mayawati tied Rakhi to Tandon. He was elected MLA thrice since 1996. His last rites would be performed at Gulalaghat crematorium at 4.30 pm, according to the tweet by Ashutosh Tandon.
Director Medanta Hospital Dr Rakesh Kapoor said Lal Ji Tandon was on ventilator for the past few days. He was admitted on June 11 with problems in breathing, difficulty in urination and fever.
