Lucknow. Hosts Lucknow won the rain-stopped All India Media Premier League-2022 title with a best performance in the league round, whereas Allahabad finished runners-up.
The semi-final and final of the tournament was to be played at Guru Gobind Singh Sports College’s cricket ground on Sunday, but not a single ball could be bowled due to wet ground and pitch due to rain.
Therefore, on the basis of the rules by the tournament technical director & BCCI’s panel scorer/umpire SP Singh, the winning and runner-up teams were determined on the basis of the points and net run rate obtained in the league match.
Due to this, the team of Lucknow finished champions with four points in the league matches. On the other hand, Allahabad stood runners-up. Although Awadh Prant and Chandigarh, including Allahabad, had two points each with one win and one loss in two matches, Allahabad got the advantage of having a better net run rate.
Lucknow’s Rohit Kumar Singh was named man-of-the tournament, whereas Shishir Pandey and Anish Oberoi were adjudged best batter and best bowler, respectively. Gulshan Dwivedi stood top in the football kicking event, whereas Chandigarh’s Raj Thakur emerged victorious in putting event of golf.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, organizing secretary, Gulshan Dwivedi thanked all the co-sponsors of the event like Indian Oil, Green Gas Limited, Radico Khaitan, Rishita Developers, St Joseph’s School, Purvanchal Cricket Association and UP Olympic Association.
He also promised to hold the event in February next year. “We would be conducting the events in February next year, and it would be an eight-team event, including teams from Mumbai and Nagpur.”
