Angrezi Medium, starring Irrfan Khan, Kareena Kapoor and Radhika Madan, could remain in theatres for a couple of days before the lockdown. The movie was released online on Hotstar.

Bollywood’s Bhaijaan Salman Khan’s Radhe, is still on hold. Radhe was to be an Eid release but after many years, there may be no release by Bhai on the festival.

Lockdown has brought life to a standstill in many sectors and movie production is not unfazed from the phenomenon. Many Bollywood and Hollywood movies are waiting to come out and reach the box office, while many are midway. Some of the most awaited movies are in the list.

Not just released and making of the movies but some of the releases planned in 2021 too have been postponed already. Multiplexes and cinema halls across the country are shut for an indefinite period of time. This has severely impacted the box office numbers.

Rohit Shetty’s action thriller Sooryavanshi, starring Katrina Kaif and Akshay Kumar has been postponed indefinitely. Claimed to be the biggest blockbuster of the first quarter of 2020, the delay in the release of this film is touted to have a massive impact on other Bollywood releases of the year. Other releases will now have to match dates for release if any planned after the lockdown.

A major issue will be whether the cinema halls will open instantly after the lockdown is opened and whether the movie goers will reach cinema halls. This will have a great impact upon the releases. The producers will not be willing to release movies with empty cinema halls.

Salman Khan’s Radhe, is still on hold. The filming was slated to take place in Azerbaijan but the team has decided to stay put.

Another one, Sandeep Aur Pinky Faraar yet again stays delayed. This is Parineeti and Arjun’s third collaboration after their 2012 debut Ishaaqzaade and Namaste England. Directed by Dibakar Banerjee, produced by Yash Raj Films, and starring Parineeti Chopra and Arjun Kapoor, the film was scheduled to release on the 20 March.

The release of Rohena Gera’s romance film SIR has also been pushed. The film was scheduled to release on the 20 March. The scheduled release of Haathi Mere Saathi – also known as Aranya in Telugu and Kaadan in Tamil has been pushed to an undisclosed date. The movie was to come to cinemas on 2 April.

The release of Kabir Khan’s highly-awaited sports drama ’83 has also been delayed. Even the trailer, scheduled to launch on the 11 March, was pushed. The movie release was planned 10 April. the date has passed under lockdown.

Actor Shahid Kapoor has announced that he canceled the filming of his sports drama Jersey in which he plays a failed cricketer. The massive release of Southern superstar Mohanlal’s Marakkar: Arabikadalinte Simham later this month has been postponed. This delay is likely to cause ripples in many Southern film industries. Pon Magal Vandhal, which was scheduled for release on the 27 March, was postponed too.

Postponed released beyond 2020 too

With outbreak of the coronavirus, life has come to a standstill across the world. Even in India, malls, gyms and theatres have been closed. With the delay in production, shooting, and release of movies, several releases of March, April, and even May have been pushed. But things have gone beyond this and many movies scheduled for release in 2021 have also been postponed.

Hollywood release

Walt Disney Pictures has stated that the release of the live-action Mulan has been pushed. The film will now open on the 24 July, after it was set to release on 27 March. Other notable delays from Disney include the untitled fifth Indiana Jones movie, which has been pushed from the 9 July 2021 to the 29 July 2022, as well as Wes Jungle Cruise, which was scheduled to release in June, has been pushed to the 20 June 2021. Artemis Fowl will skip the theatres entirely and release online on the 12 June.

Kumail Nanjiani & Issa Rae Comedy 'The Lovebirds' Heading To ...

Paramount Pictures’ The Lovebirds, starring Kumail Nanjiani and Issa Rae will now be released directly on Netflix on the 15 May.

Marvel’s highly-awaited Black Widow, which was scheduled to release in India on the 30 April, will now release on the 6 November. The Eternals, which features Angelina Jolie and a buff Kumail Nanjiani, will instead release on 12 February 2021, while Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings has been postponed to the 7 May 2021. Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness has been pushed to the 5 November 2021. Thor: Love and Thunder will release on the 28 February 2022.
