Kashi craftsmen make gown for Rome

Jubilee News Desk

Lucknow: The city of temples is famous for some ethnic textile made by craftsmen since generations and fashion designers stroll into the narrow alleys of the ancient city to get the piece for their showstopper.

But the city has some traditional and international connect too and particularly with Christmas. For over a decade priests in Rome, Greece and America, wear designer gowns that have been made in Varanasi when they come for the Christmas publicly.

Kashi is known for heritage and spirituality and foreigners can be seen wandering around in search of peace, meditation and yog. Music too attracts international travellers who are seen in places such as Kabir Chaura learning the table, sitar and dance forms of Banaras gharana.

Foreigners who come to stay long in Varanasi usually wear the local made clothes and are so impressed that many of them take them with to their own native places to wear as long as they can. Banarasi silk is an obvious choice for designers and often seen on ramp.
