Joe Biden 78, became the 46th president of United States of America on Wednesday as he took oath at 10.30 pm (IST) along with Kamala Harris the first Indian-origin, African-American person to be sworn in as the Vice-President of the United States of America.
Weeks after the Capitol Hill siege, there was extraordinary levels of security in place for the inauguration ceremony. Democrat Joe Biden won the 2020 US Presidential Elections with a resounding margin.
Biden becomes the oldest US president in history at a scaled-back ceremony in Washington without usual pomp and circumstance, due to the coronavirus and concerns following the January 6 assault on the US Capitol by Trump supporters.
His running mate, Kamala Harris, the daughter of immigrants from Jamaica and India, becomes the first Black person, first woman, and first Asian American to serve as vice president. President Trump just walked out of the White House. He’s on his way to Joint Base Andrews, where he’s expected to have a short farewell ceremony at the base before one last presidential flight to Palm Beach.

In his farewell address to the nation on Tuesday, Trump extended his wishes to the Biden administration. He said, “This week, we inaugurate a new administration and pray for its success in keeping America safe and prosperous.”
