#JNUviolence: New ‘confessions’ of JNU students points fingers on Delhi police after TV sting operation

 

Just a day after Delhi police released pictures of nine students related to JNU violence that happened on Sunday was seen relying on WatsApp videos and photos circulated over the last five days. In a telecast on India News released a sting operation made on Friday was released that tells a different story related to the January 5 incident.

The video shows two students of the university claiming to be a member of Akhil Bhartiya Vidhya Parishad or  ABVP can be heard explaining the incident along with their roles in it. The sting operation was telecasted by the channel just an hour after Delhi police held a press conference stating the names and pictures of nine students, mostly left leaning responsible for creating violence inside the JNU campus.

While, the two first-year students of BA (French) students in the video are shown ‘confessing’ to their roles creating ruckus inside Sabarmati hostel. Another  first year BA (French) student, Rohit Kumar said that he ‘led the mob inside the Sabarmati hostel.’ “Proud of what happened that night. If it wasn’t done the way it was, they would not have realized the strength of ABVP.”

 

“Preiyer (hostel) was attacked first and it was a reaction on their action… I picked a stick from a flag lying near Periyar. I mobailised people to attack Sabarmati hostel.” He then called a friend who is “an organizational secretary of the ABVP”. “There was a man with a flowing beard who looked like a Kashmiri. I beat him up with stick and broke the gate with my kicks.”

From ASIA a PhD student activist was also recorded claiming of ‘shutting down’ the server room in the university. “How can the reaction to this incident be ABVPs violence on us? We accept admin work was stopped because of our protests. Then they should have come and talked to us, who are they (ABVP) to come and beat us?”

He later said that he called the police himself after a student was injured. And even the police officers standing inside the campus cheered the mob. The Delhi police interestingly enough had videos that were leaked on WhatsApp that were submitted by ABVP as they were the first to report the violence on the evening of January 5.

On Friday, the Delhi police released the names based of the evidence provided extracted b them from the video has been in circulation over the last five days. The ABVP had confessed to circulating the video online and social media messaging apps following the violence.

DCP crime Dr Joy Tirkey even listed four Left groups – SFI, ASIF, AISA and DSF seven of the nine are from these groups. Fingers are now being pointed at the Delhi police as they failed to mention any names of the students of ABVP.

Two photographs were shown in which Chunchun Kumar, a former JNU student and activist of AISA was released by the police of Friday evening after the press briefing with the caption, “AISA activist (pelting stones with sticks in hand outside Periyar Hostel) where students and teachers were present. The same picture was uploaded by ABVP national president Ashish Chauhan at 11:45pm on January 7.

The nine students that were named yesterday consisted of seven NSUI and two ABVP students.
