Is ‘Kem Cho Trump’ the next version of Howdy Modi?

Preeti Singh

About six months before in Houston the Howdy Modishow took place and now its time in India to show the world Kem Cho Trump (how are you Trump) in Ahemdabad.

US president Donald Trump is coming to India on a two day trip. Along with him will be wife Melania Trump. Donald Trump is excited about his visit and is issuing statements frequently and also mentioning about the crowd that shall be there to welcome him. Questions are being raised about his visit. The question is under which agenda is Trump coming to India? Is it simple bilateral diplomacy or it has a connection with the coming US elections?

US president and his wife will come to India on February 24 and will stay the next day too. The central government has made preperations to welcome them and also for their stay. The officials are frequently visiting Ahemdabad and New Delhi. The prime minister Narendra Modi himself is excited about this visit and this can be explained with the kind of preparations done.

Senior journalist Surendra Dubey says the visit appears to be focused upon votes. As America will go to vote by the year end and Trump wants to repeat his tenure hence he is visiting India. It may be mentioned here that in America there is a large number of Indians and trump is making all efforts to attract Indian-American voters too.

So will India become part of Trump’s election campaign? When asked another senior journalist Utkarsh Sinha said India is not going to be, but actually has already become a part of the US elections. He said when in September 2019 Narendra Modi had gone to the US then he (Narendra Modi) had shared the dais with Trump in a programme Howdy Modi organised for Indian Americans. Modi had given a slogan from the podium ‘Abki Baar Trump Sarkaar’ (Trump government this time). Howdy Modi was a attempt to bring together Indian Americans in favour of Trump. Now the Trump visit to India is the second part of that.

IN 2016 US elections a slogan was given ‘Abki Baar Trump Sarkaar’ and that slogan had a purpose. This was because the slogan in 2014 in India ‘Abki Baar Modi Sarkaar’ had become successful. Trump knows that he is facing serious charges of misusing power and also after the strong opposition by the Congress his credibility has reduced and that is why he had to face impeachment in America, which was a tough one. IN such a situation he is looking forward to Indian American voters. trump wants to kitty those votes with the India visit.

The intervention of Indian voters in America can be assessed with the fact that during the contest for US president race the name of Tulsi Gabbard was among the top candidates at some point of time. Apart from her the names of Kamla Harris and Bobby Jindal too have made their positions strong in US. In American elections the fund raising is another significant aspect to watch and it is to be remembered that Indians are leading big companies such as Microsoft and Google and their role is key in fund raising.

Another question is who is the real organisor of the Trum visit? Congress has given hype to this question. But there has been no answers. It is said that Gujarat CM Vijay Rupani too is kept away from this event. In a globalized world this phenomenon is new which Modi-Trump are together making.
