American President Donald Trump has defended the killing of Qasem Soleimani, top commander of Iran, by alleging that Soleimani had contributed to terrorist plots as far away as New Delhi and London. He hoped that Soleimani’s killing would not lead to war.
“We took action to stop a war. We did not take action to start a war. I have deep respect for the Iranian people. They are a remarkable people ….,” he said.
Talking to reporters at Mar-a-Lago in Florida, Mr. Trump said that Soleimani was in passion to kill innocent people.
Major General Soleimani the head of Iran’s elites force al-Quds was killed in a US airstrike at Baghdad’s international airport Yesterday. Deputy chief of Iraq’s powerful Hashed al-Shaabi paramilitary force was also killed in this attack.
“Today we remember and honor the victims of Soleimani’s many atrocities and we take comfort in knowing that his reign of terror is over,” Mr Trump said.
“Under my leadership America’s policy is unambiguous to terrorists who harm or intend to harm any American. We will find you We will eliminate you,” President Trump said.
Meanwhile, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said “We will give a proper response in any manner and any time,” Iran will not give in to ‘blackmail’ by the US.
