Lucknow. Host India’s Youth Under-18 team entered the semi-finals with their second consecutive win by defeating Kazakhstan 36-35 in a thrilling match on the third day of the IHF Trophy Men’s Youth and Junior Handball (Continental Phase – Asia) here today.
In the championship being held in the newly built Bharat Ratna Atal Bihari Vajpayee Multipurpose Hall of KD Singh Babu Stadium, India’s youth team played brilliantly against Kazakhstan and displayed a great defense along with excellent wing attack.
The host players countered the agility of the Kazakhstan players with great aggression and scored points continuously. India took a lead of 19-15 till the interval. India also resorted to counter attack in the second half. In this thrilling match which lasted till the last moment, India won 36-35 with the help of the teachings of experienced coach Mohammad Tauheed.
Ravi, who was selected as the Player of the Match from India, scored the maximum number of 11 goals. Anshu scored 8 goals, Rohit scored 7 goals and Suyash Awasthi scored 4 goals. Indian goalkeeper Naveen made many excellent saves. Vadim Kasin from Kazakhstan scored the highest 11 goals and Igor Sudarikov scored 10 goals. Today’s guests in the championship was Prasar Bharati’s chairman Dr. Navneet Sehgal, Additional Chief Secretary, Uttar Pradesh Government Dr. Sudhir M Bobde and Eastern Assembly MLA OP Srivastava honored the players selected as Player of the Match by giving them awards.
Earlier, the guests were welcomed and honored by Handball Association India Executive Director Dr. Anandeshwar Pandey by presenting a memento.

Handball Association Organizing Secretary Amit Pandey and Fourth Battalion SSB Commandant Arvind Kumar were also present.
Earlier, Uzbekistan defeated Bangladesh 41-23 in the youth category. Asymbetov Jasurbek from the winning team scored the highest number of 10 goals. Uzbekistan defeated Kazakhstan 31-30 in the Junior Under-20 category. Zokirov Umidzon from Uzbekistan scored the most 7 goals.
