India’s Covid tally has crossed 63-lakh mark on Thursday. With 86,821 new cases the total case tally now stands at 63,12,585 including 9,40,705 active cases and 98708 people have died, since March 12, when the first death due to Covid-19 was reported.
The USA that is on the number one position in terms of covid cases has recorded 7,447,282 cases till now, while Brazil on the number three has 4,813,586 reported cases. Russia the country leading in the race for vaccine has reported 1,176,286 cases and is on number four.
According to the health ministry, at least 36% of the new fatalities reported are from Maharashtra and on Wednesday, the state reported 430 deaths.
Apart from Maharashtra, other states that have reported a higher number of deaths are Karnataka, Punjab, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, West Bengal, Delhi, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh.
Experts in epidemiology, however, said that the possibility that states with a high case load are actually efficient in their Covid-19 data reporting should not be ruled out.
Meanwhile India has announced its unlock-5 and activities that will be permitted from October 15, in areas outside the Containment Zones include Cinemas/ theatres/ multiplexes with upto 50% of their seating capacity, for which, SOP will be issued by Ministry of Information and Broadcasting.

Swimming pools being used for training of sports persons will be permitted to open, for which the standard operating procedure (SOP) will be issued by Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports. Entertainment parks and similar places will be permitted to open, for which the SOP will be issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.
For re-opening of schools and coaching institutions, State/ UT Governments have been given the flexibility to take a decision after October 15, in a graded manner. The decision shall be taken in consultation with the respective school/ institution management, based on their assessment of the situation.
