India COVID-19 count inching to 21 lakh

The total Coronavirus cases in India have gone close to 21 lakh to while the death toll is at 42,578 on Friday morning.

Till now India has recorded 20,89,146 confirmed COVID-19 cases till 10.30 am. Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh have reported the highest number of cases. Till now 14,28,881 patients have recovered while 6,17,376 active cases are there.

However, infections are rising rapidly in states like Uttar Pradesh, Assam and Karnataka. India’s recovery rate continues to rise and now stands at 68%. Globally, there have been over 1.89 crore confirmed cases of COVID-19. More than 7.08 lakh people have died so far and 13,78,105 recovered in India.

Andhra Pradesh has seen a rapid growth of cases in a state with already 2 lakh cases. With a doubling rate between 7 and 15 days, AP is far exceeding the national rate of over 23 days. At this rate, AP can expect another 200,000 cases by Aug 19.

With rising cases the researchers and pharmaceutical companies in the world are racing to find a vaccine. Some companies are focussing on the initial round of clinical trials for their vaccine candidate, others have raced ahead to third and final phase of testing.

There are 931 laboratories in the country. Among 931 government laboratories, 423 are approved to test for Real-Time PCR (RT PCR) tests, 476 for TrueNat screening tests, and 32 for CBNAAT testing.
