Lucknow: Mixed response is being observed among doctors on the call of the Indian Medical Association for a daylong strike, as many health facilities remained closed since Friday morning.

The Indian Medical Association has given call for a daylong strike to protest against the permission granted to ayurved practitioners to conduct several surgical procedures.

“We are getting response of many doctors in Lucknow who have kept their clinics, OPDs closed for the day and have pasted notices at the entrance for the patients,” said Dr PK Gupta, former president of the IMA, Lucknow.

The government doctors are not be part of this strike but have extended support to the IMA members on strike. “The IMA members who are working in government hospitals have extended moral support to us,” said Dr Gupta.

Lucknow has about 3000 doctors who are member of the IMA and they work in over 800 different hospitals and single doctor’s clinic. There are over 500 pathologies. Emergency and covid services are being provided.

“Allowing Ayurved practitioners to conduct surgeries they haven’t done till now, will be like mixing two different medical streams and making ‘khichadi’ or a confused mix out of the two medical systems”, they said Dr Abhishek Shukla, secretary general association of international doctors.

The problem during the strike is being faced maximum by those patients who turned up to give samples for blood sugar level (fasting and PP), getting ultrasound, x-ray, done or go four routine check up or follow up examination with the doctor.
