Kanpur, Jan 1
The Indian Institute of Technology- Kanpur (IIT-K) on Monday announced to set up a committee to decide Whether a poem “ Hum dekhege lazim hai k hum bhi dekhenge”, written by Faiz Ahmed Faiz, is anti-Hindu.
This committee has been formed on the complaint filed by the faculty members who said that the students sang the poem during the anti-CAA protests, was anti-Hindu.
If the news is to be believed, the committee will investigate whether the students violated prohibitory orders on the day of procession in the city or posted objectionable content on social media.
Bass naam rahega Allah ka!
The poem goes like this, “Lazim hai ke hum bhi dekhenge. Jab arz-e-khuda ke kaabe se. Sab bhut utaye jayege, Hum ahl-e-safa mardood-e-harm. Masnad pe bithaye jayege. Sab taaj Uchaale jaehe. Sab takht giraye jayege. Bas naam rahega Allah ka. Hum dekhenge.”
It is said that the last line is what sparked the controversy in the campus faculty.
The poem written in year 1979 in reference to the Pakistani Military director Zia-Ul-Haq and was against the military rule in Pakistan. Faiz was known for its revolutionary ideas for when he sent to jail for several years.
On December 17, students at the IIT-K took out a peace protest inside the campus in support of the students of Jamia Milia Isamia during which they were singing the poem of Faiz. According to IIT Deputy Director Manindra Agarwal, “The video shows students singing Faiz’s poem which can also be considered Anti-Hindu.”
