How much freebies impact Delhi voters?

Jubilee News Desk

Lucknow: Its just three days for Delhi to go to polls and political fever is gripping fast the Delhi voters. The national capital saw issues such as Shaheen Bagh, development, water-electricity supply and its rates but now the prime focus by the parties in the fray is upon ‘freebies.’

Whether Aam Admi Party (AAP), BJP or the Congress, all are offering free soaps to the voters and the focus too is upon that. AAP that released its manifesto on Tuesday has included Lokpal, nationalism but the freebies too found their place and the items are electricity, water, free ride to women in metro and buses. The BJP and the Congress had released their election manifesto earlier only.

BJP said for scooty and flour for Rs 2 a kg, the Congress promised 300 units of free electricity and unemployment allowance. The AAP manifesto also includes ten guarantees of Arvind Kejriwal.

Under the guarantees the AAP promises 24-hour electricity under the free scheme. The Delhi residents will get 200 units of free electricity, along with women students too will get free ride in the buses and each family to get 20000 litres of free water supply. AAP manifesto for the elections also promises doorstep delivery of ration, 24-hour markets, Teerth Yatra for 10 lakh senior citizens and ‘deshbhakti’ curriculum in schools.

It has now to be seen what voters make out of freebies politics. The Shaheenbagh protest too has had a major impact upon the voters. Even nationalism and Pakistan are being made issue for the Delhi elections that are expected to make an impact on the poll day. A latest survey tells that contest will be tough between APP and the BJP.

Senior journalist Girish Tiwari says that CAA and Shaheenbagh will certainly make an impact but the common people also get an influence with freebies. Parties have announced freebies and the elections will have the impact.

The term of current assembly, elected in 2015 will conclude on February 22 in Delhi. Elections will be held in Delhi on February 8 on 70 assembly seats. The results will be declared on February 11.
