Keeping the stride going in poll bound Uttar Pradesh Priyanka Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi the two Congress leaders and star campaigners of the party in the country will make a fresh visit to Amethi to strengthen connect with voters on December 18.
The ‘Mahangai Hatao Congress Pratigya Yatra’ (remove dearness Congress pledge march) shall start from Jagdishpur and reach Harimau, where a meeting will be held.
Priyanka has been touring places in Uttar Pradesh where her party has 7 assembly seats and the aim this time is to make the party presence felt stronger in the assembly.
On November 14, the Congress announced that it will contest all 403 seats in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. Congress’ state unit chief Ajay Kumar Lallu had recently said that Congress will not forge an alliance with the Samajwadi Party and the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP), but its doors were open for smaller parties in Uttar Pradesh.
Rahul Gandhi has been three time MP from Amethi but in the last elections he lost to BJP’s Smtiri Irani. Gandhi but has been keeping contact with voters and during pandemic he had been helping residents there. Rahul had been second to see defeat in Amethi, which is said to be a forte of Congress party. Earlier when Sanjay Gandhi had contested he lost.
The foot march will be about 6-kilometre long and Gandhis shall be greeted by thousands of voters and supporters on the stretch. The voter connect for the Gandhi family is significant because unlike previous election when Rahul and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav had joined hands.
This election the SP leaderthough is working against the BJP but has not joined Congress formally. Akhilesh is also bringing smaller parties with him and recently he had a meeting with chief of Pragatisheel Samajwadi Party headed by his uncle and one time senior Samajwadi Party leaders and UP minister, Shivpal Yadav.
