In a bizarre incident a family alleged part of the face of a newborn was eaten by animals soon after birth at community health centre (CHC) in Gonda district of Uttar Pradesh.
The family reached authorities and finally a probe was ordered by deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak. A probe panel consisting administrative and health officials is conducting probe and post mortem is also being done.
The baby was born to Saira Bano at the CHC Mujehna, in the wee hours and the health staff told family the newborn needs to be kept on oxygen support for some time. Later they handed over the body telling the family the child had died. Soon after this the family discovered that part of the face of the newborn had been eaten by some animal and they alleged it was due to negligence of the medical staff.
“Taking cognizance of the viral news on the media regarding suspicious death of a newborn in CHC, Mujehna, Gonda, a probe has been ordered. Chief medical officer has reached the spot and is investigating. A report will be submitted by evening and action will be taken against the guilty,” deputy chief minister Brajesh Pathak, wrote in a tweet after ordering a probe to the health officials.
The family returned back after some time they were handed over the body claiming the body has been eaten by animal. A post mortem examination is being conducted, said health officials in Gonda.
The probe team is likely to investigate exactly when the child was born and then when actually shifted on oxygen support. Which staff was on duty then and whether the child was left alone by the staff.
