Election in 5-states, results on May 2

Election Commission of India has on Friday announced election dates for Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Assam, and Puducherry at a press conference in New Delhi.
Polls are to be held on 294 assembly seats in West Bengal, 234 seats in Tamil Nadu, 140 seats in Kerala, 126 seats in Assam and 30 seats in Puducherry.
EC held a meeting on Wednesday to finalise the dates of the upcoming Assembly elections in these states and the union territory.
This is the first major set of elections to be held in the middle of the coronavirus pandemic after the Bihar election. Counting for assembly polls in four states- Kerala, Tamil Nadu, West Bengal and Assam and Puducherry will be held on May 2.
A total of 824 assembly constituencies shall be going for polls during these elections. About 18.68 crore electors will cast vote at 2.7 lakh polling stations in Tamil Nadu, West Bengal, Kerala, Assam and Puducherry.
IN the West Bengal elections will be conducted in 8 phases. First phase will be on March 27, second phase April 1, third phase April 6, fourth phase April 10, fifth phase April 17, sixth phase April 22, seventh phase April 26, eighth phase April 29. The date of counting is May 2.
In Puducherry the date of polling is April 6 and the date of counting is May 2. Tamil Nadu: Elections to 234 assembly in Tamil Nadu will be held in a single phase on April 6 and counting on May 2.
Similarly Kerala elections in 14 districts will be held in a single phase on April 6 and counting on May 2. The Assam elections will be conducted in three phases. First phase on 27 March, second phase on April 1 and the third phase April 6 while date of counting is May 2.
During campaign period candidates with criminal dissident have to give information about them through media at least 3 times. All poll officials will be vaccinated against Covid before elections, said chief election commissioner Sunil Arora.
To ensure that no new announcements or orders on welfare schemes are issued after election notification Tamil Nadu CEO has directed all departments to drawn a line after the last order in the GO register soon after election announcement is made by Election Commission.
