BSP supremo Mayawati on Wednesday targeted all other political parties but in a different light saying that they should not use politics for their personal interests. She said that they should not forget that India is a secular country and we should respect all religions to maintain peace in the country.
The Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP) president Mayawati’s statement came two days after she suspended one of her party MLA for supporting the anti-CAA protests. She even talked about the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and the National Population Register (NPR) for which protests and demonstrations in many parts of the country are taking place.
Several opposition parties including Congress, continue to protest against the Citizenship Amendment Act. The Uttar Pradesh government had condemned the protests in the state as it turned violent in many parts of the state. A few opposition states like Kerala, West bengal and Madhya Pradesh had already refused to implement the law in their states terming it against the constitution of India and the Muslim population living in it.
The Uttar Pradesh government had already begin to take ‘revenge against the protesters’ who were involved in destroying public property by forcing them to pay for the losses occurred during the demonstrations where many police officials were also injured during the clashes.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi has been rejecting the claims made by the oppositions leaders, saying that Citizenship Amendment Act is enacted to give citizenship to minorities who have been prosecuted in Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan.v This law is to give citizenship and not to take back citizenship.
