Special Desk

A few days before the news was that India has sent a big consignment of hydroxychloroquine to USA and now the news is that US president Donald trump is taking hydroxychloroquine for the past couple of days.

Donald Trump has said he is taking the medicine to ward off coronavirus, even though health officials in the USA have warned it may be unsafe. While speaking at the White House, Trump told reporters he started taking the malaria and lupus medication recently.

“I am taking it for about a week and a half now”, is what Trump told reporters. At present there was no evidence hydroxychloroquine can fight off coronavirus, though clinical trials are under way.
The 73-year-old US president was hosting a meeting devoted to the struggling restaurant industry, when he caught reporters unawares by revealing he was taking the drug.

“You would be surprised at how many people are taking it, especially the frontline workers before you catch it, the frontline workers, are taking it,” he told reporters. “I also happen to be taking it”, he said.
Asked what was his evidence of hydroxychloroquine’s positive benefits, Trump said “Here’s my evidence. I get a lot of positive calls about it.”

Though some people in the White House have tested positive for coronavirus, the president said he had no symptoms and also that he was being tested frequently. He also said he has been taking a daily zinc supplement and received a single dose of azithromycin, an antibiotic meant to prevent infection. Trump told reporters that the medicine was his own call.

Trump administration has recently announced that it will gift India ventilators. Considering India and PM Modi his friend Trump made this announcement and said he would send the consignment soon. This was weeks after India dispatched consignment for hydroxychloroquine.
