West Bengal chief minister Mamada Banerjee will be campaigning in the Uttar Pradesh assembly elections. “We had defeated in West Bengal and will do same in Uttar Pradesh.
We promite to Didi we shall win. Didi is welcome in Uttar Pradesh,” Akhilesh Yadav tweeted after Mamata Banerjee reached Lucknow Monday and was welcomed by former chief minister of Uttar Pradesh and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.
Manata Banerjee is likely to hold a press conference jointly with Akhilesh Yadav next day. Her party Trinamool Congress will not contest the election but ‘Didi’ will campaign for the Samajwadi Party.
Mamata had become the chief minister of West Bangal in May 2021 after winning the elections. She is ninth CM of the state and first women to hold the office in West Bangal.
After winning the elections in West Bangal, now Mamata is planning to expand party base in the country. IN Goa assembly polls the party is active.
Uttar Pradesh is where the TMC might look for options during the 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Hence the campaigning in 2022 assembly polls becomes significant, though it may be for some other party than TMC.
Mamata is likely to hold virtual rally with Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav in this week. The election to all 403 Assembly seats in Uttar Pradesh will be held in seven phases from February 10 to March 7.
Samajwadi Party is contesting alone in the UP elections, unlike the 2017 elections when it had alliance with Congress party. Congress contested on over 100 seats and SP over 300 seats.
