Delhi court tells cops to maintain law & order and open Shaheen Bangh stretch

New Delhi: The Delhi high court have directed the Delhi Police to withdraw closure of Shaheen Bangh stretch to Kalindi Kunj on Tuesday asking them to take the matter in larger public interest and deal with the issue of maintaining law and order.

The stretch between Shaheen Bagh to Kalindi Kunj has been closed since December 15. It has been causing huge inconvenience to lakhs of commuters that use the stretch everyday compelling them to use different routes since last one month.

A PIL filed by advocate and social activist Amit Sahni, seeking intervention of the Delhi Police Commissioner to withdraw the closure of Kalindi Kunj-Shaheen Bagh and Okhla underpass on December 15, 2019 amid the anti-CAA protests that causes huge traffic jams that extended in time. It blocks the route between  Delhi, Faridabad (Haryana) and Noida (Uttar Pradesh) and commuters take the alternative Delhi-Noida-Delhi (DND) Expressway and Ashram causing hours long traffic jams and wastage of daily commuters fuel and time.

The plea talks about how school going children had to leave two hours prior so that they can reach on time and claimed that authorities are unable to take appropriate action for the betterment of the local residents and commuters going in and out if Delhi, Haryana and UP.
