Covid vaccination: round two begins in UP

Uttar Pradesh started round two of covid vaccination on Friday with an aim to vaccinate around 1.5 lakh health workers, including 8500 in the state capital.

IN all 1500 vaccination centres are functional since 9 am to vaccinate the beneficiaries and will run till 5 pm. The prime minister Narendra Modi will speak to some of the vaccinators and beneficiaries of vaccination at Varanasi, his parliamentary constituency at 1.15 pm.

“The world’s largest vaccination drive is underway inIndia. Our frontline warriors are getting vaccinated across the nation. At 1.15 pm tomorrow, 22nd January I would interact with beneficiaries and vaccinators of covid vaccination drive in Varanasi via video conferencing,” the prime minister tweeted on Thursday evening.

On the first day, over 20,000 health care workers were given the shots at 317 centres across Uttar Pradesh on January 16.

The state has received around 9.11 lakh vaccine doses till Wednesday evening. We have about nine lakh health workers and keeping in mind the two doses needed to be given to them, we have enough vaccine doses to administer, said officials.

The Bharat Biotech-manufactured Covaxin was administered to health workers at 11 locations in Ambedkar Nagar, Badaun, Firozabad, Bahraich and Jhansi districts on January 16. At the remaining 306 centres, Covishield vaccine was given.

Covaxin will be administered at more places during the round two. Uttar Pradesh has reported a case load of 597823 infections so far.
