Lucknow: India reported 89,706 fresh covid cases and the nationwide tally on Wednesday reached 43,70,129, including 73923 deaths till now while active cases are about 9 lakh.
The union health ministry said that five states – Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Uttar Pradesh and Tamil Nadu – account for nearly 70% of deaths due to Covid-19 in the country, where Uttar Pradesh has reported 4047 deaths till now.
Uttar Pradesh has seen a spurt in cases during August month and the trend continues in September too with over 700 cases per day.
The total cases in the world till now are 27,738,708 while 901,866 have died and 19,831,993 recovered. Leading on top is USA with 6,514,231 cases and 194,032 deaths while India now holds second position with 4,370,129 cases and 73,923 deaths. Brazil that was second last week has gone down to third position with 4,165,124 cases but with 127,517 deaths it stands second in the world.
The number of fatalities in India rose by 1,115 in 24-hours, according to the health ministry data, to reach 73,890. The number of active cases went up further, with 13,697 recorded in the last 24 hours. The total number of active cases stand at 8,97,394.
India has seen the number of cases rise rapidly in the month of August – in the third week of last month, the country added 4,024 active cases daily. The number has now increased to 14,273 daily active cases.
The metro services have been resuming phase wise, and with footfalls expected to increase in the days to come, authorities fear the number of cases could see a rise further.
Case Fatality Rate (CFR) is declining. “It was 2.15% in the first week of August. It now stands at 1.70% compared to the global average of 3.04 per cent.
