PGIMER Chandigarh (Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research) has reportedly got initial success in randomised trial of a heat killed Mycobacterium w (Mw). According to daily newspapers the doctors in Chandigarh said they got results upon few coronavirus patients with the still under-trial alternative drug vaccine.
JIPMER was among three health institutes of the country selected to conduct trials of Mw vaccine, used to treat leprosy, on coronavirus patients. A heat killed Mycobacterium w (Mw), potentially decrease the cytokine storm seen in patients with Covid-19. It is reported that trial was done upon 6 patients given 0.3-ml dose. The trail was also permitted for AIIMS, New Delhi and Bhopal.
Human trial of a coronavirus vaccine has begun in different parts of the world including Europe. The vaccine developed at the OxfordUniversity has been injected in volunteers.
The vaccine under trial has been made from a weakened version of a common cold virus from chimpanzees. There are more than 800 people recruited for the study. Of these half will receive the under trial Covid-19 vaccine, and remaining a control vaccine which protects against meningitis and not coronavirus.
As per the protocol none of the volunteers will be told which of the two vaccines they have been provided. Only the doctors and researchers will know.
The world is looking for a vaccine and scientists in many countries are making attempt to make one for coronavirus. The one who gets success will take the lead for serving the mankind. Scientists in India too are working on a vaccine and also doctors are trying to cure patients with plasma therapy.
IN India plasma therapy is being attempted in Delhi and also in Uttar Pradesh. Till now Uttar Pradesh has reported 1793 cases.
