The first human trial of a coronavirus vaccine has begun in Europe. The vaccine has been developed in three months by a team at the Oxford University and two volunteers have been injected.
The vaccine under trial has been made from a weakened version of a common cold virus from chimpanzees. There are more than 800 people recruited for the study. Of these half will receive the under trial Covid-19 vaccine, and remaining a control vaccine which protects against meningitis and not coronavirus.
As per the protocol none of the volunteers will be told which of the two vaccines they have been provided. Only the doctors and researchers will know.
Elisa Granato, one of the two who received the vaccine told news agencies being a scientist, I wanted to try to support the scientific process. Yes we have to test it and get data from the humans who receive the shots. We have to demonstrate it actually works and then stop people from getting infected. All this before using the vaccine in the masses.
The world is looking for a vaccine and scientists in many countries are making attempt to make one for coronavirus. The one who gets success will take the lead for serving the mankind. Scientists in India too are working on a vaccine and also doctors are trying to cure patients with plasma therapy.
